Oscinella angustipennis is widespread but localised in the south with extensive and strong populations on the Gwent and Somerset Levels, and seven other known post-1960 sites elsewhere in southern England. It is found in wetlands, including fen, coastal levels and beside ditches with Phragmites, Typha or Butomus. Larvae have been recorded developing in Phalaris arundinacea, though data from the Gwent and Somerset levels surveys suggests that other monocotyledons such as Phragmites are probably also used (ref: forthcoming national status review). A reasonably high water level should be maintained, ensuring a variety of vegetation types, employing rotational management. References
